Veneers and Teeth Whitening

Whitening procedures can effectively restore the smile of people with stained, dull, or discolored teeth.

Two Types of Stains

  1. Intrinsic (Internal) Stain—may be genetic, from medications taken at an early age or fluorosis. These stains are difficult to treat. Whitening may not be effective.  Veneers give excellent results in these situations.
  2. Extrinsic (External) Stain—caused by products like coffee, tea, berries, soy sauce and tobacco. Over time, teeth actually become more absorbent and vulnerable to staining from food and other substances. Whitening is very effective on these stains.

Some commercially available "whitening toothpastes" can be somewhat effective at removing stains and making teeth a few shades brighter. However, many of these products have abrasive substances that can actually wear away your tooth's enamel.

We highly recommend "Crest Whitestrips". They are as effective as any procedure available. The "Supreme Professional" type are available in our office for our cost, around $50. Retail is well over $120. There are 84 strips in each box. That's usually enough for two people.
